Vodafone Idea, India’s biggest telecom operator has launched a mobile-based safety app for women in India. The app is called Vodafone Sakhi App and it aims at providing safety measures to women with their mobile phones. The app features emergency alerts, emergency balance, and private number recharge and much more. India is a country with over a billion mobile connections and almost half of our population is women.
But still less than 18% of mobile subscribers are women and that too they have access to only feature phones and basic mobile phones. The Vodafone Sakhi App helps to take a step ahead to drive inclusion and address real societal problems. The newly launched app for women is accessible to all women using the company’s prepaid service across the country.
The Vodafone Sakhi App will work for smartphones and feature phones even when they do not have balance or are in a location which does not have mobile internet connectivity. Vodafone Sakhi offers three main services to its users. The emergency alert option will allow them to send location alerts to ten pre-registered contacts in unfavorable situations. The emergency balance option free 10 minutes call in an emergency. Also, the private recharge feature will ensure the privacy of mobile number during recharges.

Badminton Star, Olympic Medalist, Padma Shri, and Arjuna award winner PV Sindhu launched the Vodafone Sakhi app for security service for women in India. She also initiated a special campaign for women’s empowerment.
